Success Story: Digital Magazines

One of the keys to Barnes & Noble's success with the NOOKcolor™ has been the experience consumers have with their digital magazines. For the first time, consumers can read magazines in a graphically rich format on their portable reader device (see screen shot).

In order to accomplish this, B&N is leveraging a new standard for high-resolution replica content developed in conjunction with LibreDigital. The format, called R(e)PUB is a proprietary approach to turning PDF files submitted by publishers into a file format that links page replica images to their related articles in a re-flowable text format. By leveraging LibreDigital's production scalable digital publishing platform and the R(e)PUB file format, B&N has made it easier for publishers to participate in the NOOKcolor™ Newsstand without additional production costs.

LibreDigital has operationalized this same process for other publishers and marketplaces to power replica/reflow content experiences in magazines, newspapers, textbooks, and children's books.
